My Creative Space

I love showing you what I'm working on, so I thought I'd join in on kootoyoo's "My Creative Space" - you can head on over to her blog to see what some talented folk are making.

Lately, I've been concentrating a lot on painting. Yesterday I showed you a small panel I made for a friend & I've talked about the first piece I painted for myself. For this latest piece, I decided to add more layers to the process & choose a different subject matter (instead of girls). I started out with a layer of Gesso, then wrote in it using a soft charcoal pencil. Then I collaged on top:

At this stage, I was still undecided on what subject matter to use. So I painted the background in shades of gray. I used a doily to get those patterned corners. After the paint dried, I took out my stamps & inks to add more interest. It was then that I "saw" a little house on a hill, so I incorporated more green into the background & went ahead with a bright blue & red shack:
With some of the leftover brown paint, I wrote "live love grow" at the bottom of the panel:

And so the painting has been sitting for about a week now - I'm uncertain what to do next. The house is a bit too perfectly bright & needs some wearing down. The hill needs a bit more definition, as does the "city" I can see in the distance at the right.

So what do you think? Any thoughts on what my next step should be?

I think it looks great... very great use of different techniques and textures. I would think from my view that it's a lil wholesome perfect house away from the busy dusty city. I think maybe collage some newspaper for the buildings of the city to give it a very monotone urban feel... it'll contrast greatly against the house... I think since you wrote the quote on the bottom to maybe have a flower or two/garden to represent "grow" or make the area around the house greener. Just some thoughts but I think it's super all around.

I love that you showed us your process... it's so great to see how other artists create.

It sounds like you know what you want to add - trust your instincts :)
