My Creative Space

I've been working on some paintings this week. I have 3 in progress: one is complete but something is bugging me about it so I need to adjust a few things (which I why I never blogged the final piece); one has a layer of collage & paint & I don't know where I want to go with it next (not sure why I never blogged about it... the colours are great); the 3rd I knew what I wanted to do with it, but there was still something a bit off. So I left the first two for now & went to work on the last.

Remember this pretty yellow background? It's my absolute favourite. But the branch was bugging me as is... so I collaged some paper "bark" & added even more texture with molding paste. As you can see, the molding paste is opaque white & some of the paper I used was a bit pale, so I painted over it all in brown. It's a much richer, warmer shade than these pictures show.
And now it's a perfect branch! I love the texture of it, it really reminds me of tree bark. Next step: leaves & flowers. But not too many because I don't want to cover up too much of the background!

While I was waiting for steps to dry, I started on a new piece. Why not? The first steps are the most fun because they're also the most free. I don't try to think about composition or what I want the final piece to look like - I just glue away.
For this piece, I chose collage material in blue hues. Then I added some molding paste for even more texture.
After looking at it a while & deciding where I want to go with it, I flipped it around. I love changing perspective like this! It makes it easier to move onto the next step, not worrying about covering the initial collage.
I'm glad I went with a "d" - it easily flipped into a "p" & I know just the word to make with it.
Next step: paint. And maybe a bit more collage. I think I'm going to get started on that right now!

I really like the texture of the 'webbing' on the first :)

very cool, I like both of them. I love branches and leaves, my mom has a branch watercolor that I have wanted to steal for decades lol. I still haven't dipped into the collage art much yet but still want to.
