Winter Reading List

I have approximately 80 books to read (that are part of my library). At the rate I'm going, that's about three years worth (it would be two if all of these books were contemporary fiction, but many are non-fiction or older fiction that take much longer to read). Every time I make myself a list of goals, I always think of adding "don't buy more books until you've read all you own" but that's much too difficult to accomplish. There are always new books I want to buy and the book store is my favourite place to browse!

Still, I'd like to make a bit of a dent in this list. So here are eight books I'd like to read before the first day of spring / end of March:

  1. finish Anna Karenina - Leo Tolstoy
  2. The Wolves of Midwinter - Anne Rice
  3. The Gods of Guilt - Michael Connelly
  4. Helen of Troy - Margaret George
  5. The Diary of a Young Girl - Anne Frank
  6. The Modigliani Scandal - Ken Follett
  7. Elephant Song - Wilbur Smith
  8. A Place Called Freedom - Ken Follett
I started #1 in November. Shortly after, I bought Anne Rice's new novel (she's my favourite author and I loved her first werewolf book - she always has the best "origin" stories). The third book I received as a gift for Christmas. The last five I picked up at a great used book store in North Bay during the holidays.

Besides #1, all of these are contemporary fiction (except #5 obviously), so I should be able to go through them quickly. Then I can really make a dent in those unread books I've owned for a long time...
